Motif BioSciences, Inc.

Mofit BioSciencesMotif BioSciences Inc. ("Motif") works with a variety of founder populations in the Persian Gulf region and elsewhere to discover genes involved in illness and wellness. Motif has developed a specialised (patent-pending) methodology for collecting and analysing genetic data.

Over the next five years, more than half of the world's top selling drugs will go off patent. Between 2007 and 2011, drug companies stand to lose US $28 billion due to expiring patents. As a result, pharmaceutical companies have a significant need to develop their new product pipelines. By applying discoveries made possible by the mapping of the human genome and utilising Motif's specialised genetic technology, researchers will be able to better understand the underlyingmechanisms of hard-to-treat diseases and develop validated drug targets for new therapies. The market for new type II diabetes drugs is US $20 billion, the market for new cancer drugs is US $44 billion, and the market for new heart disease drugs is US $25 billion.

Amphion's fully-diluted ownership stake in Motif was 41.17% as of 31 December 2006.

Myconostica

MyconosticaMyconostica, Ltd. (“Myconostica”) is a spin-out from the University of Manchester that specialises in a new type of 'molecular' diagnostic test for infectious diseases, particularly life-threatening respiratory fungal infections, allowing much faster and more precise diagnosis. These tests will have significant health-care benefits, such as reducing death rates, shortening recovery times and hospital stay, and reducing the high cost of care for these types of patients. The standard diagnostic tests in clinical use today are slow, insensitive, and complex, often taking several days for results that are of questionable accuracy. A fundamental benefit of Myconostica’s tests is the fact that they are simple and can test for multiple fungi in a single process. The existing market for molecular testing is currently worth more than US $5.6 billion per year and is expected to grow to US $12 billion by 2010. Myconostica’s focus is on testing for respiratory fungal diseases and blood infections, a market that is currently valued at US $400 million per year.

Amphion’s fully-diluted ownership stake in Myconostica was 32.46% as of 31 December 2006.
